Fairwork Argentina 2025: Opportunities and challenges in a context of deregulation

Fairwork Argentina
Fairwork Argentina

This report presents the second Fairwork assessment of digital labour platforms in Argentina, examining working conditions across delivery, ride-hailing, and domestic service sectors. Based on extensive worker interviews and documentary analysis, the findings reveal that, despite some isolated improvements, the prevailing platform model continues to reproduce structural vulnerabilities: unstable and often insufficient earnings, limited protection against work-related risks, opaque algorithmic management, and a persistent absence of effective collective representation. In a context marked by high inflation, growing multi-job holding, and ongoing regulatory debates, the report highlights the widening gap between fair work standards and everyday platform labour practices, underscoring the urgent need for stronger public policy, corporate accountability, and rights-based regulation of the platform economy in Argentina. All in all, this report proves to be a key input to demonstrate that framing the public debate around the legitimisation of labour flexibilization is not only inadequate, but risks institutionalising precariousness as the governing condition of platform work.
