This Fairwork Jordan report assesses the working conditions on seven digital labour platforms operating in Jordan, including ride-hailing and delivery services. Building on a first assessment conducted in 2023, the report examines how regulatory pressures in the ride-hailing sector affect workers’ conditions, particularly in a context where licensed platforms employ just over 11,000 workers while tens of thousands more operate on unlicensed platforms.
Using the Fairwork framework, the study evaluates platforms against five principles of fairness based on desk research and interviews with workers and platform managers, with scores validated by the international Fairwork network. The findings show widespread shortcomings across the sector, with almost no points awarded. Platforms were unable to demonstrate guaranteed minimum pay, adequate protection from occupational risks, standardised communication and appeal processes, or recognition of collective worker voice. Only two locally based platforms, Petra Ride and Jeeny, received points for providing transparent contracts and enabling workers to seek legal redress under Jordanian law.
