This third Fairwork report for Chile analyzes nine platforms, including the most popular ride-hailing (Cabify, Uber, Didi, inDrive) and delivery platforms (Cornershop now Uber Eats, Justo, PedidosYa, Rappi) operating in the country. These ratings are the first undertaken since the introduction of a new law regulating platform work in Chile: Law No. 21.431, effective from September 1, 2022.
Law No. 21.431 has significantly altered the criteria for assessing working conditions in the Chilean platform economy by establishing minimum standards for working hours, remuneration, and access to social security. According to the findings of this report, while there have been some improvements as a result of the new regulation, gig workers in Chile do not necessarily perceive profound improvements in their working conditions, and there are still many areas where more evidence is needed to ensure fairness for workers in the digital economy.
