Klemens Witte

Klemens White

Klemens Witte is a researcher for the Fairwork project in Germany. He is also a researcher at the ‘Innovation & Entrepreneurship’ research group at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), and the AI trainer for the ‘Gemeinsam digital’ project.

Klemens is working on his doctoral thesis on working conditions in the platform economy, for which he conducted interviews with drivers of Didi chuxing and Yandex Taxi in Moscow and Beijing. He holds a master’s degree in political science and intercultural communication (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg/Moscow State University/Kazan State University), a second master’s degree in Baltic Sea region studies (Södertörns University College/Stockholm) and an LL.M. in international business law (Southwest University of Political Science and Law/Chongqing and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg).

His research interests include questions concerning AI and ethics as well as how societies and SMEs in particular can benefit from new technologies. Prior to joining HIIG, he worked in the field of internationalisation of SMEs as well as in digitalisation and the future of work in Swedish ministries, as a lecturer at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations, and in an international think tank.

For the Fairwork project, Klemens conducts worker and platform manager interviews in Germany, and is involved with ranking and rating German platforms.
