Casual Research Assistant

We are looking for a Casual Research Assistant to support the Fairwork Project.

The Fairwork project, based at the Oxford Internet Institute, assesses digital labour platforms and companies in the AI supply chain against principles of fair work and strives to push for positive change in the digital economy. The project has a large established network, operating currently in 39 countries, and with over 200 researchers worldwide.

Overview of the Role

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the post holder will act as a Research Assistant for the Fairwork project. The Research Assistant role will involve provision of research support for Fairwork.

Responsibilities/Duties

The appointed research assistant will report to Prof. Mark Graham and be able to manage research and administrative tasks independently while contributing to project planning. Key responsibilities include conducting primary and secondary research to evaluate platform companies against Fairwork principles, designing research materials, collecting and analyzing qualitative data, contacting stakeholders and performing literature reviews for publications or presentations. The role also entails contributing to research outputs, managing daily project administration, representing the research group at external events, collaborating with partners, building stakeholder relationships, and supporting the Principal Investigator with additional tasks.

Subject to completion of payroll paperwork and satisfactory right-to-work check, the position(s) are available from January and will be on a casual engagement, up to a maximum of a 12-week period and up to 20 hours per week/for a total of 240 hours over this period. The hourly rate is £20.95 per hour.

Please note a valid right to work in the UK will be required for this role. A right to work check is a Home Office process to establish that each employee/casual worker has the right to work in the UK. Under the 2006 Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Act the University has a duty to prevent illegal working by carrying out document checks to confirm that a person has the right to work in the UK. All employees, casual workers and Tier 5 sponsored visa holders must have their right to work checked before they start work at the University.
