According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE), there are around 250,000 delivery platform drivers in Mexico, with 80,000 more anticipated to join by 2025. More than 6.8 million people made at least one online food and beverage purchase in 2022.

These figures highlight the importance of the platform sector in Mexico, in terms of workforce and consumption, and its potential for growth.

The first Fairwork report for Mexico presents an overview of the labour conditions of platform workers in the country. It comes at a crucial time, while the country’s legislature is actively considering labour regulations that would directly impact platform workers.

The Fairwork Mexico team analysed nine digital labour platforms by conducting desk research, interviewing 105 platform workers between August and November 2022, and talking to platform managers. The platforms analysed were Uber, Uber Eats, DiDi, DiDi Food, Rappi, Cabify, inDrive, Jokr and Cabify. We were unable to award a score to any of the platforms studied, meaning that platforms could not satisfactorily demonstrate their implementation of the principles.
