The Fairwork Scoring System entails that each Fairwork Principle is divided into two thresholds. Accordingly, for each Principle, the scoring system allows a first point to be awarded corresponding to the first threshold, and an additional second point to be awarded corresponding to the second threshold. The second point under each Principle can only be awarded if the first point for that Principle has been awarded.

Platforms are awarded a point where there is verifiable evidence to demonstrate that the platform has achieved the relevant threshold. A blank score therefore means that there was no verifiable evidence to award a point.

A platform can therefore receive a maximum Fairwork Score of ten points.

Fairwork scores are updated on a yearly basis.

1.1

Pays its workers at or above the minimum wage, which in 2022 was EGP 2,400 per month (USD 80.22) or EGP 554 per week (USD 18.52) for a six-day work week.

2.1

Provides its couriers with safety gear such as helmets, safety vests and windbreakers. Additionally, there are policies in place to mitigate risks associated with lone working. Talabat, moreover, is creating rest stops for couriers on the road in cooperation with the MoSS.

4.1

The platform could evidence an effective communication channel between the worker and the platform, as well as a documented process to appeal decisions affecting workers. It provides different mechanisms for communication such as Whatsapp groups with area managers, and offline and online support. Evidence was provided to show that workers are not disadvantaged if they raise concerns. It also has policies in place to deal with malicious orders by problematic customers, including customers repeatedly cancelling orders or illegal items.

4.2

The platform provided evidence of a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
